Book One
17th century England: Eight-year-old Cassandra is an apprentice to her midwife mother. She is useful because of her gift–her ability to take away pain with her hands. But it is this talent that has made her a curiosity. To some people she is an angel. To others, she is something unnatural. Something to be feared. While helping her mother with a birth, church officials arrive, intending to take away the eight year old girl for practicing witchcraft. Cassandra escapes, running out into the night and taking refuge in the woods, knowing she can never go home again.
Waking from her dream, Cassandra’s phone is vibrating, the OB Nurse is paging her to the delivery room. Her dreams often take her down corridors of time, deep into the past. This time Cassandra went back to her life before her life, a place best left forgotten. It is now 2013 and Cassandra is an obstetrician in New York specializing in risk deliveries. She still uses her hands to bring life into the world, but as a vampire, she can cure and heal with them.
She has sacrificed a great deal for her career, including putting an ocean between herself and her powerful and controlling mate so she could practice medicine in the human world without his interference. Seeing each other only once a month has taken a heavy toll on both of them. Cassandra’s life feels hollow without her mate whose blood and body she needs to stay strong. But the two share more than the bonds of their mating; they share a tragic past, both haunted by the loss of their Master, for whom they searched for centuries and never found.
It had been an unbreakable bond– a carnal, magical love between three– destined to endure for centuries. Until the night everything was shattered, the life they shared left in ruins.
Killian, in a fit of despair, disappeared into the night without a trace. For over years, Cassandra and her mate searched for him, wandering the cities and countrysides of Europe and beyond. Circumstances force them to return to London and their Kind, but both vampires maintain hope of someday finding Killian, pledging never to stop searching for their lost Master.
When a vampire perishes, the mates they leave behind experience a slow death of the heart and their life force fades. It is love that keeps Cassandra and her mate alive. For each, the other is an anchor to a life that never ends. A life where a part of them is missing.
After a long day at the hospital, Cassandra is visited by Forrest, a human friend and member of the Sentient Organization, long time allies of the vampire nations. To Cassandra’s shock, Forrest provides evidence that Killian is still alive and in great danger. Cassandra immediately sets out to find Killian before their enemies do. Or before he disappears again.
But first, she’s going to need Forrest’s help and the resources of his powerful organization. She’s going to need him to intercede, possibly betray his own people to help her. In order to convince him of Killian’s importance to all Vampire Kind, Cassandra’s takes Forrest on a journey through her memories, starting with the end of her human life at the hands of witch hunters in the 1600’s and Killian’s intervention, bringing her back to life as a vampire.
The story unfolds as Cassandra descends into the decadent and dangerous existence of Vampire Kind, a hedonistic and violent world with it’s own hierarchy and its own laws of survival. With Killian and their human Protector, Alastair, guiding her, Cassandra blends into the human world, learning to hunt while hiding in plain sight from vampire hunters.
Vampires feed on sex as much as they do blood. The power exchange between a Dominant and a submissive is the core of a vampire’s sexual life force. As Killian and Cassandra’s love deepens, so does her feelings for Alastair. Since vampires are all bisexual and threesomes are common, it is not unreasonable for Killian and Cassandra to share Alastair despite a long, mysterious history that already exists between the two men. But bringing Alastair to their bed has it’s own set of complications, the first being that he is human and refuses to Turn vampire. Given his violent, dangerous life as a Protector, he can be taken from them at any time, a fear both vampires share.
Cassie takes Forrest deep into her history with these two complex males, through their struggles and transformations, ultimately ending in a rise to great power within the vampire world. In these travels through time, Cassandra shows that eternal life and power mean very little without her mates to share it.
Going back and forth between the present and the past, Bound To A Vampire reveals the secrets of the past and their impact on the present. Unlocking the past may be the only way for Cassandra to find Killian while saving all three of them in the process. If she ever hopes to find the missing parts of her heart, she will have to ruthlessly fight for the ones she loves before it’s too late …
